Fall: Winter can come quickly in Bryce, but September temperatures are ideal, usually staying in the 70s during the day. It’s a perfect time to beat the city heat and head out into the fresh, thin air. The temps hover in the low 70s in June and hit the 80s in July and August, making hiking a much less sweaty affair than in other parts of southern Utah. Trail running and hiking shoes are good options, and chaco or teva-style sandals are okay in the wetter seasons.   • The road to Kolob Canyons does not have a large shoulder, but it sees little traffic and runs more than 24 miles, making for another worthy ride.Bryce Canyon's elevation makes the weather ideal during all four seasons.
  • Springdale can also be used as a base to explore the many mountain biking options in Southwestern Utah, such as the Gooseberry Mesa and Bearclaw Trails. You can rent bikes and e-bikes from a number of outfitters around the park, including Zion Adventures which has been operating out of Springdale since 1996. Stop along the various viewpoints, including favorites like Big Bend, to pause and enjoy the scenery. Take a ride close to sunset or sunrise, and you’ll pretty much have the park to yourself. Not a whole lot can beat cruising along a 9 mile road through the heart of the prettiest part of Zion, and for much of the year you’ll only share the road with buses. Most people will end up using the Zion Shuttle that runs from February-November to get around the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive, but I’m hopping on my bike to ride one of the most beautiful short bike routes in America.
